OSPOLY IN 2019: 6 MOMENTS THAT SHOOK OSPOLY.
Today is the very last day of the year 2019 and out of the 365 days in the year, we cannot but recount some good and horrific memories we went through in 2019.
This post is just to make us reflect on how awesome and fulfilled the year has been in 2019.
1. No School Fees, No Test Saga.
Perhaps this is the first time we would be experiencing this in current times. In 2019, there was a massive revolution led by the Student Union Government to go against the Management's plight of not wanting students to write tests without payment of school fees.Over the years, we have been used to 'No School Fees, No Exam policy' but 'No Test' policy caught us offguard and this really saw the Students Union Executives going Lecture Theatres to stop lecturers who were using this policy against students.
One could say, The SUG Body led by HOPE did well to fight for the Students.

2. SUG Electioneering.
Perhaps I should say this year's Electioneering process was the first of it's kind. As you well know, Ospoly students vote based on Faculty Sentiments which means, if you aren't a student of my Faculty, I won't vote for you. At least, majority operated in this dimension. But this year, things took turns as all we could see was just Two Coalitions. In the previous year, there was a coalition formed by 4 Major Faculties on campus that birth HOPE's emergence as the Union Leader and having learnt how successful the coalition operated then, The Faculty of Science and Faculty of Information and Communication Technology formed a coalition where they produced candidates with Kenraj as the foremost leader, they were tagged as "Team Kenraj".On the other side, we have Team Solace with candidates from FFS, FMS, FENG, FES, VOCATIONAL STUDIES.
Massive Campaigns went on with several fights amidst the two camps. In fact, the enmity was so much that the candidates life were not that protected as many of them resolved into not staying in the hostel they rightfully rented.
Election Day came, The Directorate of Students Affairs did all it could to ensure sanity at the Sports Complex where votes were to be casted. As it had been in time past where there were series of fights, this year's election also recorded fights. Ballot Boxes were destroyed by groups and eventually, The election was cancelled! Neither Team Kenraj or Team Solace could believed that would happen but hey, it happened.
A New Election Day was eventually given after many students have gone home and eventually, 10 Candidates of the Team Kenraj camp emerged with only 1 from Team Solace.
It was really an amazing moment.

3. June 1st Incidence.
Oftentimes, the new month comes with new blessings but in OSPOLY, it brought sorrow that eventually affected many students plans. The Management had fixed exams for May and students were serious enough to write exams until an incidence where a student collapsed after exams and was rushed to the School's Health Centre where according to several reports, the Health Centre staff couldn't turn in to treat the victim. Eventually, the Student died in an hospital outside campus.
The incidence took a wrong turn in students mind which led to a protest which initially was peaceful until it turned otherwise where the Health Centre was vandalised and items looted. This was very unusual but the lackadaisical of Health Centre staff got students annoyed and they couldn't help venting their anger to fight for their 'rights' afterall, they paid for Medical Care.
The incidence made the management to shut down the school for 2 months amidst examination and many intending graduates had their exams suspended until further notice.
The June 1st incidence will forever remain in the heart of students of Osun State Polytechnic.
4. Students Union Proscription.
Well, this is not a new thing in the Nigerian Tertiary Institutions as Management often suspend the Student Union and some times, expel or suspend Union Leaders. In OSPOLY, after the Electioneering Saga, the Union was proscribed and the Union Leaders lost their power to meddle in Union affairs. The Union was proscribed basically because the Management assumed they meddled in the Suspended Election. Well, anyways, the Union was reinstated and there was a proper handling over done to the next Union Leaders.
5. Power Changed Hands
Yes, 2019 also saw the change in Leadership at the Topmost level of the Management. Dr. Agboola, the immediate Rector's tenure was over after 8 years or so and the new Rector was appointed. Dr. Olaniran was appointed by the State Government to serve as Acting Rector.6. Reparation.
How would we forget this?Due to the June 1st incidence, the management ordered every full-time student to pay a sum of Ten Thousand Naira or risk not writing exams.
Students found this unbelievable but eventually, majority paid.
Do you think there are other moments we forgot to add? Why not do that in the comment section.
Thanks for reading through.
