OAU Vice Chancellor Eyitope Ogunbodede speaks on sex for mark scandal, says investigations are ongoing

One of Nigeria’s foremost Universities, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, has been trending massively both online and offline.

This was owing to a sex for mark alleged against one of the University’s lecturers, Professor Akindele Richard by one female student.

The student had reportedly shared a recorded statement between herself and the lecturer.

Details from the recording disclosed a voice similar to that of the lecturer seeking to go 5 rounds of sex before he could pass the student.

The scandal has been growing with many people throwing support behind the lady.

Eyitope Ogunbodede, the vice chancellor has also reacted to the news as he stated that the management was already looking into it.

He said,

“IN FULL COMPLIANCE TO ALL APPLICABLE LAWS, THE UNIVERSITY HAS SET UP A HIGH POWERED COMMITTEE TO INVESTIGATE THE ALLEGATION AND SUBMIT ITS REPORT WITHIN ONE WEEK. ANYONE FOUND CULPABLE WILL BE DEALT WITH DECISIVELY.

“THE UNIVERSITY CONSIDERS SEXUAL HARASSMENT AS AN OFFENCE PUNISHABLE CONTRARY TO THE CODE OF CONDUCT AND ANTI-SEXUAL HARASSMENT POLICY. THE UNIVERSITY WILL NEVER CONDONE SUCH ACT BY ANY STAFF OR STUDENTS.”

Also the chairman of Congress of University Academics, Obafemi Awolowo University, Niyi Sunmonu, reacted to the news.

He said if investigations revealed the perpetrator was indeed a lecturer, such lecturers should be sent off the academic ground.

The chairman said, “Lecturers are expected to mould the lives of students.”

In another report,  the wife of the Accounting professor, Akinyele Richard, stated that it was the handwork of the devil.

Sex for pass mark is not a new thing in Nigerian tertiary institutions.

As it has been on for long.

With female students being at the receiving end.

As they must either compromise or forget about graduating from that particular institution.
