Tuition Fee: Management dialogues with Student Union

The previous week was filled with tensions of an increment in the tuition fee which brought about groanings amidst students of Osun State Polythenic, Iree. The development prompted a quick resolution of protests which was agreed to hold on Monday, 23rd October, 2017 but
was later nullified by the summoning of the Students Union leaders by the management for a proper dialogue.

The meeting however was held today in osogbo, osun state with students union leaders and faculty presidents in attendance. The Rector, Registrar, Bursar and DSA were present in the meeting on behalf of the school's management.

2. INTRODUCTION OF THE STUDENTS.
3. MEETING PROPER. In a bid to ensure the well being, peace, welfarism, good learning environment for the students and failure of the Nigerian students to agree with the proposed increment of the school fee of osun state polytechnic iree becomes a point of duty of the constituted authority (SUG and AFP) of osun state polytechnic iree to accept the invitation to the meeting called by the rector of the school Dr. J.O Agboola. Where issues and the grievances of the student were presented before the top management.
The students all presented their grievances before the top management which includes:
Proposed Increment of the tuition fee of the non indigene from #25,000 to #35,000.Addition of some other new fee to the proposed school fee Addition of medical fee to HND2 student school fee which was unusual from the past.poor sport facilities. Failure of the MIS to upload semester result on the school portal, and their inability to paste the result at the appropriate time and Others grievances. The Rector in his overall reaction commend the students Government body and describe them as the leaders of the nearest tomorrow, he also commend the student constituted authority of the job well done to maintain peaceful atmosphere on campus from the past semesters, He pledge not to hesitate calling such type of meeting in the nearest future.
Mr. Rector then make an emphasis on the presented case as follows; He testify that the institution according to the directive from the state government has sent their proposal concerning the new students school fee, he said in is reply to the proposal that the document the student claim to have seen is not the real proposal sent to the government by the institution, he declare the paper has a paper tiger which is differ totally from the one the management sent.
  The rector also said that the school tuition fee is the government policies that no management is capable to implement such policy. He also said that the management did not have it as a thought to differentiate the indigene fee from that of the non-indigene as stated in the documents presented by the student body. When addressing the issue of if the government has approved the proposal or not he said that he has been communicated  the proposal has been approved but he has not seen the paper. But he said in his speech that the amount is not as high as compared to what the student has thought of, from his affirmation he said the fee is in the range of the old fee before the reduction to 25,000 and he also made it clear that the status of the school fee has not change from the old #25,000. Mr rector also said in his word that the management has introduce some new things into the curriculum according to the directive from the (National Board of Technical Education) NBTE such as:
Learning of Trade which has attracted the Entrepreneur fee.T-SIP as a heath Insurance for the Student which brought about the addition of medical to HND2 fee and increment of fresher's mesical fee to #2000.
When buttressing his point said the NBTE policy can not be tampered with unless if the body would withdraw their accreditation. When addressing the issue of Sport  also said that the school need money to finance good sport arena and introduce indoor games, rebuild the pavilion_ but the management has no enough money to do such due to the financial situation of the school. When addressing the issue of result, The Rector apologise to the student that the MIS is facing some challenges due to the introduction of new process into the system, he promise to address the case duly. He also inform the students to put all their grievances into writing through the DSA office to the management so as to address the issue concerning the uploading of result and others. The SUG chairman pour out his mind on poor condition of the SUBus due to the poor maintenance allowances from the management, while replying to this Mr. Rector said the grievance concerning the bus should also be put into writing through the office of DSA and that very soon it would be attended to. All other grievances were reacted to accordingly.
He (Rector) promised to make the new school fee available to the whole Nigeria student immediately it get to him from the state government and on the issue of the ongoing strike the rector said it will soon end as they are trying all possible best to relate with Union tomorrow.
In the closing remark of the Student Union Caretaker Chairman Com. Adegbaye Taiwo he said the reaction of the student would be determined by by what the new fees will be look like.

The meeting held by the management and the Students Union leaders creates room for peace on the campus as every issue tendered regarding the increment of the tuition fee has been agreed upon.
